In 1935 my father was asked by the Emperor to go down to Southern Ethiopia to a place on the borders of the Sudan and Kenya, where there was an established route leading from the Sudan across to Saudi Arabia along which two captured people were trafficked. He managed to find the ring leaders and take them prisoner. He then informed the Emperor, who found out where the prisoners were being held and bought them back to Ethiopia. My Mother had been planning to meet up with my Dad but had got a telegram from her brother saying, “don’t go to join Dad, war is about to break out.” She did not go, and my Dad somehow found a way back to England.
