Above our house at Mulu there was a mud track that led up the hill and about 1 km up it there was an enormous stone in the shape of a seat. We use to ride up and down this track, sometimes we stopped and sat on this enormous stone seat, it was about 2 metres tall and 3-4 metres to get around it.
What was this stone? And how did it get there?
There was another really large rock in the hillside above the British legation in Addis Ababa. This was a black stone and massive. There is a legend about a chap Called Mohammed Grine, who was a leader in ancient days in Galla history in Ethiopia. The legend says that he would hurl a great stone from the place where he had spent the night in and wherever it landed, he would spend the next night there. In this way he gradually conquered large parts of the Showa province in Ethiopia. He and his men would have to fight to get there. It could have taken a very long day to get there. Was the stone on our track? One of Mohammed Grin’s stones? We shall never know as it was in ancient times. But its fun to imagine that it was a stone Mohammed Grine threw all those years ago.
