The Blue Nile

The Blue Nile started in the Ethiopian Highlands and then descended a spectacular waterfall called Chichisat (smoke of the fire) It then turned at right angles into an incredible gap. Legend has it that a man once jumped over this gap. The river then widens and flows a long way into the Sudan and at Khartown joins the White Nile and flows down to the Mediterranean as the River Nile.

There was one year an expedition of British army personal who Blashfordshall lead which canoed from below the falls right through to Khartown. They had four boats and one was called Sandford. We helped launch it with a small bottle of Champagne, it was the only one to get through and we were given the canvas covering which we had a Mule for years.

There were mountains near.
