Bertram Langdon visiting Ethiopia

Bertram’s family thought it would be a good idea If he visited us in Ethiopia’ I (Philippa) did not think it would be a good idea because the altitude we lived at was 8000 ft above sea level so I suggested that he should only come if a doctor had said it would be alright. I do NOT think the doctor had any idea of the effect of living at 8000ft would have been on an elderly person. He found it very hard to live at such a high altitude. His heart could not cope, and he died a few weeks later. It was dreadfully sad for Michael.

He is buried in the War Graves cemetery at Gulali which has a small area for civilians’ burials. So, his gravestone is still there today. June 12, 2023.

But we have photos of the boats he built so we can remember him as a great carpenter and a great ancestor to have.
