Driving in our Peugeot

We could fit 1 or 2 adults in the front seat and up to 4 or 5 children in the back (depending on size and age. The two major problems were the dust and the heat. Coping with the heat and dust. All was fine unless you caught up with /or passed another car. Then you would have to wind up the windows very quickly to stop the dust from coming into the car. This also made it very hot in the car.

I seem to remember that we would have very thin scarves that we could wind over our faces to keep the dust-out, unless you were the driver when you could twist a scarf over your lower face and hope you could breathe through it.  I expect we used * shamas* which were very loose cotton shawls that we could breathe through, but which would keep the dust from getting into our hair and lungs. And you could have sunglasses over your eyes so that you could see. I still use these glassses when I go out in strong sunlight in a car but, luckily no dust in and around Hemyock.
